Good comments. I concur with Abu's comments and describe it as moving beyond the flood of information to a place where we are inspired toward application of the original learned knowledge. From your post, this latter part would be commiserate with "create and communicate".

I like what you have to say here and will add you to my Blogroll - weirdblog.wordpress.com

"Students need to learn how to search for, aggregate, analyze, synthesize, create, and communicate, and they need to be able to do so in an increasingly digital world (hence also the need for more social studies education..."

interesting use of my commentary - in that i was utterly unaware of IDC's research or findings here when i wrote the switchboard piece. That was not my jumping off point. i am all about serendipity and reuse through linking but your flow makes it appear i was responding or augmenting the WWD daily post by way of IDC> I wasn't - i was referring to a conversation with someone. No worries- i still got the link citation, which i greatly appreciate, but it just confused me. Love the literacy angle by the way.

so long as it gets reduced to some sort of text at some stage, it'll be ok. Otherwise, it won't be searchable, and that's the same as being unfindable.
